Birds of a Feather...

Another bird-printed dress, you say? It really should come at no surprise by now that I love birds and other animal prints on my dresses :). I saw this dress on ModCloth last year but missed it in my size. I was so excited when I found out that my local Unique Vintage store had it! I was able to buy it at a Black Friday discount a few weeks ago. In these pictures taken last weekend, I am wearing the dress with red Ruby Shoo shoes.

I've been meaning to do this post for a few days now, but I got really sick on Wednesday and didn't feel like doing much aside from sleeping and watching Netflix. Thankfully I feel a lot better now; lemon tea and DayQuil can do wonders! Last Thursday, I took my anatomy final and a few days afterwards I found out that I got an A in the class (yay!). I'm off from school until spring semester starts in mid-February which is when I'll be taking physiology and possibly a second class. Until then, I'll be working and enjoying the holiday season, meaning soon I'll be posting more winter/Christmas-y outfits :). And, Edwin is in LA until January 5th so I'll get to see more of him too! Because he lives in San Diego, we only see each other on the weekends so it's nice to have him back for some time during the holidays.  Speaking of which, about two weeks ago he surprised me with my (early) Christmas gift-- he got me my absolutely most-coveted wishlist item, this beautiful Bernie Dexter Winter Wonderland dress. I was so excited and I cannot wait to do an outfit post with it!

Some more good news: the physical therapy clinic where I've been volunteering once a week has offered to hire me part-time starting January as a therapist aide! I'll primarily be responsible for leading patients through their exercises, helping with charts/administrative things, setting up rooms for evals, and essentially assisting the therapists as needed. I'll still be working at the research lab part-time, but between the two jobs I'm excited to be transitioning over from a research setting to a more clinical, patient-interactive setting and getting the necessary experience to apply to grad school later this year.

I need your advice! You may have noticed that I've added a copyright text to all of my photos. The reason is because a few days ago, I found out that a user on the website Deviant Art had used one of my outfit photos on her page, claiming it as her own photography. Of course I reported it and it was taken down, but I promptly went back through all my photos and added the copyright to each one. Has anyone been in a situation like this before? How have you handled it? I don't necessarily like putting text on my photos and was wondering what alternatives there are or what suggestions you may have!

I hope everyone has a lovely upcoming holiday season!

A man’s heart plans his way,
But the Lord directs his steps.

  1. That's awesome you were able to score the dress at UV! And that's great your boyfriend got you that Bernie dress! Can't wait to see it on you. Congrats on getting offered the part-time position! :)

  2. Congratulations on your new job! I hope you won't find it a hard time to juggle both of them.

As for your photos, let me first say that I feel bad about the image theft that you experienced. That's like one of the major crimes you can do on the internet. I'll suggest putting a watermark with low opacity. That way, you can watermark your photos without having the text obstruct the image a lot. You can find lots of tutorials on the internet for this. Good luck, Serli!

    1. Thanks for the advice, Krista! <3 I'll definitely look into the things you mentioned. It really is awful for someone to steal your property, the internet can be a scary place sometimes :(.

  3. Wow, the photography theft thing stinks... It's really sad that you had to deal with that, but hopefully it won't happen again. :)

And those shoes! I'm seriously in danger of drooling on my keyboard... I love the polka dot pattern! They are really cute. ❤

  5. So, first off, congrats on the new job! That's so exciting!

I also had a picture go up on Deviant Art and had it taken down too. It was probably the same day by the same user! Many people have used my images without consent and it's frustrating but I prefer not to use a watermark. I think you just have to do what's best for you and your frame of mind.

You look amazing in this dress. I just wore mine yesterday! I also cannot wait to see your Bernie post, I'm sure it's going to be magical :)

    1. Thanks Ashley! Yeah, I don't like putting a watermark on my images either. It's just frustrating that someone can so easily take your picture and claim it as theirs! Thanks for your input! <3

  6. Congrats on the new job! That is awesome, you are going to love being in a more patient revolved setting! And I don't even have to say that you are looking cute as ever in that dress (but I will anyway!).
So strange too about your photos! How did you even find out about the page? Not that I think anyone will steal my lousy iPhone quality photos, but still! Glad you were able to resolve the problem!
Hope you have an amazing New Year!

    1. Thanks Amanda! I found out in the most random way- another user found my blog through searching the image online and emailed me to let me know. So weird haha. Who knows what else is out there, we'll never know. I hope you have an amazing New Year's yourself! <3

  7. That really sucks that your photos were stolen. I don't watermark my pictures because I don't like how it looks. I make sure I don't upload my pictures in their full resolution either though. Just big enough for my blog so there's not a whole lot that they could be used for other than posting to websites. There's not really any way to prevent pictures from being used without permission though. It sucks.

But anyway, I really love your pretty bird print dress. The red shoes are so perfect with it!

    1. Uploading pictures at a lower resolution is a great idea. Thanks so much for the advice and for your compliment Jamie! <3
